Your Compassionate Health Care Experts
Choices is a woman-owned and operated medical facility serving women in New York City and surrounding areas for over 45 years. Our team of board-certified medical professionals and support staff offer safe, trusted, comprehensive care and services at the highest level. Our state-of-the-art facility is located in the heart of Jamaica Queens, NY.
For over 45 years Choices has been removing barriers that block access to women’s health care. We have provided excellent clinical care to thousands of women who have walked through our doors over these four decades, and we have learned that far too often, mental health issues often go unrecognized and untreated. We also know that not everyone has access to the care they can trust near where they live, and not everyone can get to our offices in New York City.
By launching telecounseling, we are making the care, expertise, and passion of Choices available to women throughout New York State.
Choices Women’s Medical Center was founded to provide the best possible health care for women. This remains our core mission. At our state-of-the-art facility and with a staff of top medical professionals devoted to women’s mental and physical well being, Choices offers comprehensive prenatal and gynecological care that includes regular “well-woman” exams, birth control, prenatal care and abortion to 24 weeks. We specialize in assisting teens with reproductive health issues, and all our services are entirely confidential.
You can apply for and receive Emergency Medicaid on the spot, and other forms of financial help are available.
AT CHOICES, OUR SPECIALITY IS YOU!
Telecounseling is the innovative use of secure, live, interactive video to provide psychotherapy and counseling directly to where the patient is located. Instead of coming in our physical office in New York City, you can now simply “log on” to our secure “online office.” Through telecounseling you can see and hear your doctor and your doctor can see and hear you, all in real time.
At Choices, we recognize that far too many women suffer needlessly with mental health challenges such as too much sadness, worry, or emotional balance. Our experience, the stories of our patients, and the scientific research all tell us that weekly psychotherapy with a trusted psychologist – the doctor you talk to – can give women the help they need to overcome these challenges as well as life’s many other stresses such as school, work, and family life.
Is telecounseling as good as “in-person” therapy?
Research shows that telecounseling “effectiveness” is just like “in-person” psychotherapy. Telecounseling provides you with all the benefit of in-person therapy and so much more… more convenience, more access, and more time to get back to your busy life, while taking care of good care of your mental health! With telecounseling, you can finally get the care that you need at a time and place that works for you.
Message From Merle
I am extremely pleased to announce that our telemedicine telecounseling program is on board and already started!
Inspired by our work with Gynuity in the study of using telemedicine for RU486, I wanted to expand these services to deal with all sorts of mental health and behavioral issues.
The Director of our Program is Dr. Frank Corigliano with Esther Priegue and Dr. Rischa Gottlieb coordinating on the Choices end.
Dr. Frank J. Corigliano, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, social entrepreneur, and President of Healthy Connections Psychological Services, P.L.L.C. which provides critical mental health care to patients in underserved and hard-to-reach areas throughout New York State. Dr. Corigliano “leverages technology to address clinical and social issues.”
In 2017, Dr. Corigliano will be developing our telemedicine and telecounseling programs. These innovative programs will allow women throughout New York State to access the care provided by Choices simply by “logging in” from the privacy of their own home.
As usual, Choices will be on the cutting edge with this program—and we are ideally suited to be the ones to bring this alliance of technology, psychology and feminism to New York State.
